The Tired Hacks of the Old Media

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Salvador Allende, former Chilean President and darling of
the American Left, was a racist, homophobic anti-Semite.
It has been two months since a book making the charges was published in Chile and a week since the story was published in the German media. Yet a Google news search reveals that only one British newspaper has picked up the story and the old media of the U.S. are AWOL.
Allende, a physician before entering politics, apparently wrote a dissertation worthy of “Mein Kampf.” Allende’s 1933 work was recently uncovered in the archives of the medical faculty at the University of Santiago and is the basis of a book by historian Viktor Farias.
According to reports, Allende believed that race and crime are linked, suggested surgery to cure homosexuality and advocated government-forced sterilization on alcoholics and the depressed.
Why is the old media of the U.S. not paying attention?
Simply, it does not comport with the left’s ideology.
Accusations of racism, sexism and homophobia are the exclusive province of the left, in support of left-wing causes. Recall Patricia Ireland’s silence regarding Bill Clinton’s misogyny. The allegations against Allende, if true, are not what the Washington Post calls “neutral facts.”
The fact that both ends of the media spectrum are silent about the Farias book shows the provincial nature of the U.S. news media. Apparently, no one in the media bothers to check Google news Deutschland, or the 21 other countries found on the bottom of the Google News home page.
Perhaps the dissertation story is as bogus as Newsweek’s Gitmo-Koran story. But isn’t it funny that Rather-gate, Newsweek-gate and the New York Times Jayson Blair-gate all involve fabrications that support the ideological leanings of the liars and their employees?
Report the story first, fast and let the chips fall where they may. So if the Post, the Times
and CBS are busy investigating the Allende story, their studied pace is out of character.
Two months and waiting.
